Extreme Close Range Gun Fighting w/Gabe Suarez

This was a two day course in Tyler, TX. Day one started out w/airsoft FOF drills to stress moving off the X or line of fire. This was eye opening for all the students (all experienced shooters) We rolled into close contact drills using point shooting and shooting/reloading while on the move. The rest of the day was spent on drills to improve in these areas. Day two started with more of the same as well as lectures on mindset. After lunch we got a run down on the AK, its simplicity and virtues. We moved on to fighting in and around our vehicles and then to drills drawing and shooting while seated in four different directions. We then partnered up and rolled our trucks onto the range to practice engaging multiple targets, providing cover fire and moving to simulated cover. Gabe did stress that if at all possible to use our trucks to exit the area or as a weapon of itself but in the event that its not possible be ready to fight. That concluded the training. I'm sure I failed to mention several things but it was a lot of info and I'm still processing. All in all ECRG w/ Gabe Suarez was BADA$$

Niether was bashed but the "Modern Technique" was definatley put to the test in Force on Force and found to be somewhat lacking. As someone suggested to me once "see what you need to see"

SI does NOT bash the MT or Mr Cooper. They do point out that MT was developed for competition and morphed into self defense. Things change, we learn more and older ideas are proven wrong. THAT is the point that SI makes. Their FOF training is breaking new ground so there will always be resistance.

To further clarify, it would be real nice to able to employ the MT in a close range gunfight but through FOF, at least for myself and the other students present we discovered that planting our feet and acquiring the front sight or even a flash sight picture was just to slow. I think that if the situation allowed, perhaps the the bad guy fumbles his draw or there was enough distance involved I could see going to some variation of the MT. I doubt I would at this point in time try to take a head shot with my wife or kid being held in front by the bad guy, but rather close the distance and put my piece right in his ear before pulling the trigger. Of course taking a well aimed shot is another option. Anyway what do I know, as I've never been in a gun fight.

    Gabe Suarez makes statements like

"modern technique mafia" [ MT being Modern Technique ]

"Arizona Gun Mafia" in direct reference to Gunsite in Arizona all the time.

Just search and the truth will set you free.
