    Question Colorado Springs: Indoor/Outdoor Ranges

My wife and I will be in the CO Spgs/Woodlawn Park/CC area for three weeks or so. Do you Colorado folks have any favorite ranges you'd suggest?

    Thanks!

There are several ranges in town, sort of in town.

Dragon Man's can get some scary looking people. On the weekends there is a RO, and the times I have been out there it is a tight running ship. If you have all of the correct paperwork you can shoot full auto stuff. This is the only rang I know that will let you do that in the springs area. Dragon Man is the only place you can shoot as a non member.

Frontier Sportsman I have not been to, but a buddy of my has a member ship, and he likes it.

My wife, and I belong to Pikes Peak Gun Club (The Izaak Walton League of America.) Nice place friendly people, and for are twice a month trip to the range it was the best deal.

There is also a place way out East on 94. The name escapes me right now.

If you check out the clubs you may be able to get in since you are just visiting?

There is a free range run by the Forest Service up on Rampart Range Road ... as soon as I mention it someone will come along and post about how dangerous and dirty the place is, but I've never had any trouble shooting there and I always pack out my trash!

Frontier is a real nice range, but you'll have to find a member to take you (I really need to get off my butt and get a membership there).

Drangon Man's is not as bad as it used to be (there used to be shot up cars complete with manequins painted all "bloody" with signs like "Dragon man's Ex Wife's Lawyer" and "A guy to bothered Dragon Man" etc. on the road into the range ... apparently the ATF made him clean it up) Dragon Man himself is an interesting character ... for one thing he goes by the name Dragon Man ... he's an old jewish guy from New York who moved out here ages ago and collects machine guns. Range is kinda dirty (just a big pit dug in the prairie) but his rates are reasonable, and if you have time to tour his "museum" there's a lot of neeto stuff there (just make sure you leave your guns in the car when you come into the office ... he hates when people bring their guns in the building ... dunno why, but he's an odd one).

Back In June The Independent (free leftist rag you'll find copies of all around town) ran an article on him thats worth reading http://www.csindy.com/csindy/2005-06-02/cover.html
