Yes, slaps can be pretty effective. Here is a very famous, and one of my favorite, slaps:

There's a take down defense in Krav where you sprawl to keep the guy from getting your leg, straight arm to the head and simultaneously deliver an underhand slap to the face with the free hand, raking your fingers back over they eyes as you withdraw. Not much blocking in Krav. Every defense in an attack.

How we behave as gun owners is important. Posturing and threatening does not serve us well in the public eye.

Being disabled, having a total neck reconstruction that failed,I can attest to the lethality of a well placed slap! This could easily end my life or put me in a wheel char for the rest of my life! Anyone that doesn't think that it wouldn't give them that moment they might need to get an edge on there opponent is kidding them selves,a well placed slap with your wight behind is will defenetly stun your opponent!

focused open hand slap to the ear

I agree, the slap is under-rated.

Another vote for slaps being underrated. Kungfu class always sucked worse in sparing when seifu went open handed, you flew farther, and it took longer to recover from the spinning room after head hits. Fists hurt, open hands knocked ya sensless and flying, finger tip only strikes.....okay Im gonna go lay down for a bit. Atleast thats what ive learned
I know not what this "overkill" means.

Honing the knives, Cleaning the longguns, Stocking up ammo.
