A serrated knife is NOT a saw. A saw has cutting edges that are as wide or wider than the blade body to cut a kerf (path) for the blade to follow; like plowing a path in snow in front of you so you can walk behind. This way the body of the blade does not bind on whatever you are cutting when you get any deeper than the cutting edge. A serrated knife is NOT wide at the cutting edge; it is tapered to a point like a "Real" knife.

In my opinion, all serrations do on a semi-serrated knife is take up valuable real estate that could be dedicated to a nice, sharp, properly beveled plain edge so you can have a longer slicing stroke.

Plain edge for my defensive knives. I have a combo on some of my utility knives, but would rather them be plain. I need an edge like a surgeon's scapel, not a woodsman's saw.
Gun control can be blamed in part for allowing 9/11 to happen.

Do you prefer a partially serrated or plain edge knife for daily carry?

Drop point or tanto are the main choices of all the blades I sell. So what do you prefer and if you feel like it, why?
I have a SOG Pentagon Elite with a Shark Tip with partial serration. The tip I use to cut packages open. The serrations for cord, cables and rope.

I am also getting a SOG Trident Tanto with a notch for quick cutting and partial serrations. After trying the new one out, I will decide what my EDC will be.

I also have a Benchmade BS 42. However, I open a SOG faster.
