    Interesting comment today

So I was standing in the hallway at work, waiting on someone to catch up, with my hands in my pockets.

The facility manager walked by and told me to get my hands out of my pockets, it made him nervous, wasn't sure if I had a knife or something.

I usually have my knife clipped to my pocket, but forgot it, and so I had a knife I keep in my car in my pocket, in my hand.

    Odd he would say that...

And if you walked around with your hands behind your back, would that have him nervous, too? I think he was way out of line with that remark.

What is he doing that makes him be nervous about someone having hands in pockets.

Dictated terms to you. Didn't ask what you had in your pockets. Didn't let it go. Didn't fire you on the spot, for making him/her nervous. I'd suggest you've got a manager with a "power" problem, there.

    Sounds like a paranoid micro-manager.

Your manager doesn't sound like a 'people person' (if he was being serious)...

Why would it matter if you did have a knife in your pocket? It is the intent to use it that he should be concerned about. Going around saying silly stuff like that would give him a reason to be concerned I suppose. That is quite a conundrum for him. Walk around paranoid and say things to aggravate people in order to walk around paranoid.

I would have looked at him and said "Or?" and then walked away with my hands still in my pockets.

I'd probably keep my hands in my pockets on purpose.
