Anybody use bear repellent for home defense? Found some on "Pepper Spray Center" that is supposed to be pretty hot. This place also has several other choices that seem pretty good.
Buy Bear Spray, Dog spray, repel a vicious dog, safer camping with BR-9 bearspray
One of the best OC's currently available is SABRE Red, it is tried and trusted, I can vouch for the effectiveness of this product having been exposed to it a number of times.
There is a measuring system called SHU's (Scoville Heat Units) that is used to gauge the intensity of different products. It is the actual reaction of the tissue to a product that is being measured.
SABRE RED contains 10% Oleoresin capsicum measuring 2,000,000 Scoville Heat Units, producing 1.33% major capsaicinoids.
Laboratory testing found SABRE RED to be between 8% to 86% stronger than the competing formula's. Fox's being the closest.
OLEORESIN CAPSICUM (OC) PERCENTAGE
Only measures the amount of OC within the formula. Who cares how much you use if it is not hot?
A single Jalapeno pepper is rated at 7,500 SHU.
SABREs O.C. Pepper spray is rated at 2,000,000 SHU. ( that's two million)
Bear repellent is rated as beginning at 2,000,000 SHU
(oops typo I earlier said 2,000,000,000 SHU, Im an idiot)
Following exposure to a ONE second spray on the side of my face for a simple test. My skin immediately blistered and I had to be transported the hospital.
So to ask another question.
Would Bear Spray stop a drug crazed attacker?
This stuff will melt the eyeballs out of his head.
Any individual who can't see or breathe will most certainly loose interest in a life of crime, if only for a short while !
Now the downside.
If you are defending yourself from an attack, have YOU used too much force?
Your attacker is definitely going to the hospital, and if you got a good shot directly in his eyes, the odds are you have caused severe permanent damage to his sight.
Will this leave you open to criminal and or civil charges?

Thinks for the info irish ironsight, I believe I'll just stick to Sabre Red as the majority of people recommend it.
Basically, your going to have almost as much trouble as your attacker !

Don't forget, the most important part of OC spray it to RUN as soon as you give the bad guy a shot of it. Don't hang around waiting for the show. It's meant to give you time to escape the situation.
The sooner your feet grow wings the less likely you are to get into the nasty stuff yourself.
I use the fox labs personal pocket unit. It's about $12 and can clip to a key chain. It came highly recommended by my CCP instructor. And the 2 places that I have found to sell pepper spray around here only sell Fox. One of them is a LE supplier.

I carry 2 oz Fox labs, same for my wife and daughter
Sabre red is some good stuff. Hurts pretty well too with a good exposure ( Really it's fun, LOL).. 2million shu, and 1.33% Capcium (Sp), and oil base, so it'll stick nice also.

Glock27/ KaBar TDI/ MTAC Holster. I have more also, but this combination works well..
+1 for Sabre Red. I made my fiance spray it once just so she'd get used to reaching for it and using it. And man I was standing down wind a little bit and caught some off spray, that stuff is nasty nasty!
The 2oz cans are awkward to carry. They hit against my leg in my cargo pants.
I was thinking about trying the Kimber pepper blaster.

I carry a Cold Steel Inferno Pepper Pen everyday in my left side pocket this is some nasty stuff. I can walk to and from my car or whatever with this pen in my hand and no one is the wiser.
