I have the same issue and bought a Spyderco Leaf Storm with a 2-7/16" blade. It was designed in collaboration with Kevin Wilkins with titanium and a Reeve Integral Lock on one side and G10 on the other side. It looks way better in person than in the pictures and the hollow-ground S30v blade cuts like crazy. S30v is a premium powdered stainless steel that holds a very sharp edge for a long time. I carry the Leaf Storm every day at work with no problems.

The benchmade impel is an auto and hence a non-player. The CRKT koji hara is exactly 2.5" and so technically not < 2.5" as the law states. Sounds like a minor technicality and probably is if the guards are in a good mood. I've seen guards measure knives before and I prefer to operate with a mood-independent approach. The CRKT is also spring-assisted, which is technically legal but may raise eyebrows combined with the blade length.

Looks like your pic of knives will give you a weapon that is a 'hair' above not being armed OMO, but perhaps you can add OC spray?

I big pain with those shorty blades is that they all also come with shorty handles. If someone would make a shorter blade with a handle like a...oh, Delica or Mini-Griptilian then they would really have something useful for SD and EDC use in restrictive environments.

I believe that Emerson makes one like you describe. I can't remember the model name.

    SOG Bluto 2.25"
    Kershaw Scallion 2.25"
    Gerber E-Z out 2 3/8"

There are plenty of very good small tactical and covert knives with blade lengths less than 2 1/2"

What about assisted opening? I like the Kershaw knives. Ken Onion designs. The Leek, Scallion, and Chive. The Leek is too large for what you're looking for. The chive too small. The Scallion has a blade 2.25 inches. It is assisted opening (not switchblade).

Another "vote" for the Boker Subcom F. The blade is actually less than 2" but, given the right circumstance, will deliver a lot of grief. Easy to carry and scary sharp.

The only knife I ever carry that small is Benchmade Aphid. I had to take a dremel tool to handle below the openining stud to make it work for me. It is a liner lock, which is not my prefered set up. After a little work that probably voided the warranty it is now a pretty decent knife. If I was looking for a replacement for it I would look for something with a hole rather than a stud.

Well that's a POS. Liner lock doesn't line up with blade. If I loosen it to adjust then the blade is wobbly.

    The search continues.

Mostly need it for cutting boxes and other odd jobs. Don't need to get hassled or lose my job over the blade length. OC is an option but I'll have to check the rules. Metal detectors are being used randomly now but I imagine soon it will be all the time.
