Anyone heard of the CRKT My Tighe?

There are several models, but this one interests me:

I'm looking for a new EDC as I broke my good one and lost a cheap one on the job. :/ My range goes up to about $80-90.

Great knife. CRKT has serious engineering in their blades, and I bought the same model for my sons and son-in-law last Christmas. I love mine, and recommend it.

Do you recommend the smooth blade or serrated?

I own a few CKRT knives and have found them to be a great bargain and very well made. My favorite knife from them is the K.I.S.S. If your budget is $80-$90, I would take a close look at the Spyderco Endura or the Benchmade Griptilian knives. IMO, they are better knives, from the blade steel to ergonomics.

    - Depends on what you want to use it for. Serrated edge makes it easier to cut through things like rope, etc., but a plain edge is more useful for cutting most other things. I personally like a combo edge since I use a knife to cut a variety of things and like the option of either.

My daughter gave me a mini My Tighe last year for Christmas. Nice assisted opener. I'm not a big fan of the handle shape and material so it wouldn't be my 1st choice for EDC or self-defense purposes.

It depends on what your primary use is going to be. With respect to SD I'd recommend plain edge (smooth blade). Serrations tend to bind up versus cutting cleanly through loose clothing.

Here's the CRKT I carry. Great design (and designer), good steel, very comfortable and comforting.

I have one and really like it, although it is a honking big knife.

I have several CRKT knives, though none of the Tighe series. All of mine are what I would call good values, IE Price vs. quality. I have recently purchased but not received a couple of the CRKT Elishewitz designs, the Anubis and the Horus. Both in plain edge. The quality of these is supposedly even better than other CRKT offerings.

I would vote for the plain edge version of any knife over combo or serrated, but that's just my opinion(we know what that's worth!).

IIRC I did just see the mini My Tighe on ebay for considerably less than $80

Another great option is the FlashII from SOG. Again, great bang for the buck!

Edit: Link to Mini My Tighe on ebay

A work mate carries one of the mini-models. The veff serrations make quick work of nylon rope and cardboard.

CRKT makes good cheap knives. They're not big on highest-quality materials, but they're big innovators and do a lot to encourage custom makers to design knives and the make production versions. Their Brian Tighe collaborations are pretty cool, especially if you'll never afford his $600 customs.
