Somail Pirate Loses Knife Fight with a US Navy SEAL Today and Dies
I guess it is not too bright to go mano a mano with knives against a US Navy Seal? That is apparently what one of the 19 Somali pirates that hijacked the pleasure yacht "QUEST" tried to do today. As the Seals were clearing the ship, a confrontation with one of the pirates led to what is being described in the press as being a "knife fight".
I wonder what sort of a knife US Navy Seals carry? Anyone have an idea?
I am sort of surprised that a knife would even be used in this sort of circumstance. What possible tactical reason would there be to use a knife, as opposed to a handgun in a close quarters confrontation? Are knives really that effective a weapon?
Here is a photo of one of the two American Christian humanitarian couples that were sadly murdered by the pirates today:

One can only wonder when we and other nations are going to finally get serious about cracking down on these thugs. This is a terrible tragedy.

Picking a one on one battle with a SEAL is a poor victim choice.
I shed no tears of feel no remorse for these murdering pirates. May they all get what they deserve.

I just don't understand why the US doesn't bring it too them. First of all, they can't hide their boats. They are too large to take out of the water. Why don't we do some low fly bys and blow everything that looks like a boat to smithereens. Then the pirates can stand on the shore and wave at the tankers and pleasure boats as they sail by. We need to quit wasting our time and lives in Iraq and Afghanistan and win one for a change.

The US NAVY SEALs are everything you see in the movies and BETTER. Yes a knife is quiet and effective when used by warriors like these.

Pretty much whatever they want. Quite a few carry Emerson's (CQC-7, Commander models).
I see they killed two pirates and captured 15, it's a shame it wasn't the other way around!!

They should've just put them back in their boat and blown it to smithereens.

Keel-haul 'em and then hang 'em from the bow. When they get too rich, cut the ropes.

Somali pirates should be treated as terrorists and as such should be hunted down and shot dead. I am glad that there is one less of these scumbags on Earth. Way to go US Navy SEALs!!!

The account I read on Fox's website paints a confusing story. One pirate was on our warship to "negotiate," while another fires an RPG at the warship from the yacht (it missed). Shortly after, gunfire breaks out in the carbin...some of the pirates run to the bow immediately with their hands up to surrender. Our SEALS board, and find two dead pirates, along with the dying Americans.
It seems that there was fighting among the pirates, from this report.
The problem with just "taking out" the pirates is the fact that they already hold so many hostages from nations all over the globe. We cannot unilaterally put those hostages at risk. Trying to get all those governments to agree on a course of action...good luck.

Quite correct. They do carry the Emerson, and alot of them carry the Cold Steel Recon 1 Tanto model. They like the folder better than the fixed blade models due to the compactness of the folder when hauling their gear.
