I bought a Kershaws (Ken Onion) Model 1660 VIB a couple of years ago and carried it for a little bit and then put it away because I was young and didn't know how important it is to carry a knife. Now my question is now that I am little bit older is this a good knife to carry? If so how would I sharpen a knife like this? Thank you
Your knife is commonly known as a Rainbow Leek.
I suppose that any knife is better than no knife and I know some people carry the Leek as a backup knife but I do not consider it ideal. The greatest drawback is that the knife is too slippery... no handle texture and no finger choil to prevent your hand from sliding onto the blade.
I would recommend a Kershaw Storm... much grippier and very reasonably priced. I think it is an unbeatable value in a backup knife. You should be able to find one for around $30.
If you would like an assisted blade, I would recommend the Kershaw Blur. It lacks a finger choil but it has a grippy surface which sort of makes up for that. You can get one for $52 at Impact Guns website.
