how about the gerber guardian backup? i was at my local hunting/sports shop, and i played around with one. it's really small, the sheath has excellent retention, and it's relatively good still, all under $50.

For EDC I use two Benchmade model 220 Fixed Resistors. One plain edge satin finish, one partially serrated with the BK coating. They come with Kydex sheaths which seem to perform well for me. They both cost a little over $100, made of 154cm steel, and the blades are 3.4 inches long, legal for my state, Colorado. They are very sharp. The place I bought them from has both styles. I am very happy with my purchase. Cust and past the link:

One last thought >>> You should be able to expose(unsheith) your blade with just one hand. The same hand that you draw with.

With my EDC blade I can either draw the blade with one hand(either hand) or I can draw the whole rig, unsnap with thumb, and sling the sheith off the blade.(with either hand)

You should practice every different way of coming up with blade in hand that is possible/practical. Remembering also that you could be on the ground. (as I am most of the time, given the big damn gorilla's that I am fortunate enough to train with) ----------
