The Griptilian does not have a safety but it is not an assisted opener.

It is a very good knife for EDC, utility, whatever. Light, strong and fast opening with solid lock-up. One of my favorites.

When I read this quickly I read "I need a new knife or girlfriend"

My girlfriend carries a Boker Bulldog
she has also carried my Kershaw Skyline and various other knives I own. But those two she really likes because of how thin they are and how concealable they are yet easy to grab and open.

If you want strong...get a Chris Reeves Sebenza. S30V and titanium. It won't snap, and the lock won't fail. No safety to muck about with.

    Not cheap, however.

Spyderco Harpy in stainless or another Spyderco in stainless. Like butter coming out of the pocket and easy to open with just a little practice. I've never drawn one from the pocket with the plasticish handle.

How/where is she going to carry it?

Is she going to practice opening it?

What are the laws in OH regarding blade size and opening mechanisms?

    Lots of important, practical questions.

In many cases you are better off getting a small two inch blade folder with a Quality Steel, S30v/VG-10, and get a custom tiny kydex sheath made for open folder carry.

I have this for myself and my wife as one carry option. Neck carry of an open folder in a kydex sheath is fantastic for her.

She needs fast access not buried in the purse........especially if she never practices opening it. To wit: Practice opening it fast if she clip carries in pocket or it becomes not much more than a magic talisman. Practice neck carry access.

Moreover, go train FoF with the AMOK! system.

    Best to you both.

Exactly! They can only carve your heart out - they can't stomp on it afterward.
