Survival knife

This is a discussion on Survival knife within the Defensive Knives & Other Weapons forums, part of the Defensive Carry Discussions category; I like my Ontario Marine Corps bayonet. If you need something more robust then the Becker BK3 http://www.amazon.com/Ka-Bar-Becker-.../dp/B001IPILMA...

Personally I have Mora/Frost 840 MG as a Bush Knife. 3 7/8" length, 0.70" thickness, Carbon Steel blade with a Scandinavian grind for an edge. Very sharp and durable and good for many different things from woodworking to batoning and they're only around $15.

I have the Glock Knife, very sturdy with a good sharp edge. I keep that one in my BOB. If heading into the woods I usually take my Becker BK2. A great camp knife. Very thick blade (1/4") and long enough and heavy enough for chopping.

I watch the Dual Survivor show on Discovery and Cody uses a Mora knife.

The LMF has been tested thoroughly and has a good reputation. If you are planning on keeping it and using it, I would suck it up and pay the $70-80. It will last you the rest of your life. Cold Steel has a new Kbar rip-off for $50. Their knives are always well-built. Personally, I would get the an old-school Kbar. Some things can't be improved upon.

FWIW There are several knives avaiable that does some things better then my KA-bar. But MY KA-Bar does everything good enough.

If you get one, get an orginal Ka-bar or a new one------ not a Ka-bar TYPE knife.
