    Guessing game....

My step father passed away a couple of years ago and my Mom finally has the nerve to go through his belongings and has given me a couple of rifles. One is a really nice Chinese SKS. The other... The only markings I see are "U.S. Carbine CAL 30 MI" here's some pics... If anyone can help me... What is it... Is it ant good... Good defensive rifle.... Thank you.

Yeah it's really nothing special. You probably won't want it, and therefore should just go ahead and send that to my house for, um, disposal.

Thanks all... My step dad had coated all the guns in cosmoline... After removing some of it from the barrel, I found more markings..."SAGINAW S.G. DIV GENERAL MOTORS", right below the front sight...

You've got a sweet gun there. The stamping you found is obviously who manufactured it, they were farmed out to all kinds of facilities during the war. I have a Rockola model, they manufactured jukeboxes, from what I've been told its one of the rarer models. Also don't refinish it or re-blue it it's worth much more if it's one that is in original condition. Although they did send a lot of them back to military armories to be redone and sold to the public. Just some random info for ya.
A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government. --George Washington
