I still need to get a good sharpener. My dad used to get his pocket knives pretty sharp with just a dual-sided stone. He could get a Case or a Buck Creek to shave the hair off your arm. I'm not that great with a stone, and not sure I want to practice on my Spyderco or Benchmade. I've watched some reviews on the Edge Pro, it looks like a really nice system - its just pricey.

The green compound will put an absolute mirror edge on you knife if you work it correctly, you just can't roll it at all. But, the steel needs to be a tight structure so it can take that type of edge. There's quite a difference between the edge S30V and 154cm will take.

Or, you could just send your knife to me and I can get it there for you...
I've wondered about this. I already have a 154cm knife and I'm really wanting my next one to be S30V. What kind of difference can I reasonably expect?

I have experience with Benchmade's version of these steels. My take is that the S30V is a little more persnickety than the 154CM. The burr is a little more stubborn but once you tame the burr you will have an edge that will be more durable than the 154CM.

Hair splitting, yah, what fun. I've only had success with this by taking the angle down to like 10 deg or less but I don't routinely do that. I get sloppy and scratch the blade and, while I don't mind scratches, I'd rather they were cutting related and not sharpening related.

That knife is almost as sharp as my Katana and Wakisazi.

Sharpness is like shooting accuracy. Filleting a hair is one thing but how many deer can you skin before all the hair overwhelms your edge?

I can hit the broad side of a barn if it's within range.

I love to verbalize Katana! and Wakisazi! And for some reason Tatonka! falls in there too.

Thanks for the tip. I have limited bandwidth and have to watch my video intake so I can't always watch all of the videos posted but if I can fast forward to it, it won't eat up all of my MBs. ;-)
