    Are Frost Cutlery knives Junk?

    Hi Guys,

I own mostly practical carry blades, namely a Spyderco Endura and a Spyderco civillian. However, I've always wanted a crazy, show knife that could double as a home defense knife (whatever that means).

I was thinking about picking up a Frost Cutlery "Undertaker III," are these things junk? I.E. do they have a decent edge, is the handle well forged to the blade, etc.? Or are they cheap show knives?

If these thinks are no good, could any reccommend another type of big "fantasy" style bowie that is actually high quality?

    Thanks!

In short yes, they are pretty doggone junky if you're thinking about buying one at anywhere near the suggested retail price.

If you buy one then (for sure) buy one on Ebay because since nobody really wants them...you can probably pick one up for between $10.00 & $20.00

If you don't find one on Ebay CHEAP this week then wait it out because in a few more weeks there will be a bunch more listed.

Search Frost Undertaker....as there are 4 of them listed on there right now.

Basically they are laser cut profiled blanks of Stainless knife steel that are fast production line finished in China?

I personally think they look cheap as "sin warmed over" but, if you want one you can pick one up on Ebay for $9.99 or slightly more.

Go for it as what have you got to lose...except the price of a large pizza with 3 toppings at that price.

Make sure the shipping cost is not inflated and bid away.

The large True Custom Knifemaker Fantasy Style Bowies are going to be a thousand & over.

The same old story...basically, you get what you're willing to pay for.

Personally, I would forget the fantasy knife for home defense.
I would probably go with a knife like the Gryphon Terzuola Combat Utility Bowie for right around $99.00
I think in the long run you'll be much happier with a high quality large knife that you can get a lifetime of use out of for serious defense - camp - & survival.

I picked up a Frost dual blade folder at the flea market for $6 a few years back. It's my tool bag knife for scraping corrosion of car battery terminals and other things I wouldn't use my good knives for.

They make great knives to leave on the bank of the river for the next fool, to fish that fishless hole, to find.

A defense knife is like a defense gun. You usually get what you pay for. Fantasy knives are usually pretty useless as defense knives as well. Even the big name custom guys usually don't temper the steel! Sorta like who would you rather have protecting you, a gun show commando or a plain clothes executive protection specialist.

Two rules .....>> if it sez Pakistan in very small letters ...don't buy it. If the price is $9.95 ...your probably getting $9.95 (or less)worth of knife. -------

+1 for Ontario Knives . They also can make some Big Nasty looking knives but they are of a LOT better quality than Frost.
