EDC knife - carry clipped or not?

For those of you who live in states/cities where you can carry your knife with the clip exposed, do you carry it this way or do you bury it in your pocket so that no part of the knife is visible?

I've carried clipped for the obvious reason - quick and consistent access. But I'm wondering if this is the best practice. At least two reasons I can see to carry totally concealed:

    1. element of surprise - essentially the same argument about concealed firearm vs. open carry
    2. element of surprise with respect to your concealed firearm - i.e., the guy who is looking for and sees your clipped folder might be alerted to look for any other weapons, such as a concealed handgun

Always clipped, but the gun and clip are covered by my shirt, so no one can see either.

I've considered clipping my knife in a magazine pocket pouch, then putting the pouch in my pocket. It keeps the clip from open sight but orients the knife in a consistent location & position in my pocket for relatively quick deployment. I haven't found exactly the right pouch yet, but I've been lookin'.

I don't use the pocket clip. No real reason why, I've just always carried my knife down inside my pocket.

Clipped. It is usually covered by my shirt, though.

I carry clipped, since my EDC is a bit too large to rattle around in a pocket, and is much less accessible there.

I use mine in my work, so I carry it clipped. Since I don't wear a suit to work, it doesn't look out of place.

    Not clipped, generally.

Clipped for quick easy access. I see a lot of clipped knives in my neck of the woods, I'll leave the element of surprise for my pistol.

Clipped because I like it to be easily assessable when I need to open a package or cut some twine. Carry mine more as a everyday tool than as a weapon.

OK, as the new guy I'll go ahead and ask the stupid question. There's places where you're not allowed to have a clip showing on the outside of your pocket? Why?

Mine stays chipped most of the time. My EDC is still a tool and I need it at work and home fairly often.

I've 'unclipped' it a couple/few times when I thought it prudent, but it's rare that I do.

Why, indeed. IMO, it's a sorry attempt at protecting the overly-fearful. But you'd have to ask the statute creators who came up with such things, to be certain. Generally the statute in question will have its explanation/purpose made clear in the opening paragraphs of the bill that was proposed.
