    Pakistani knives on ebay

I just searched "custom handmade bowie" and a lot of these came up. The location says Wazirabad, Punjab, Pakistan. I'm a bit unsure; when you hear "Pakistan" you automatically think "cheap knock-off", but I know Punjabis, especially Sikhs and Rajputs, have a great tradition of blade-making. Anyone know about these? They sure are handsome.

The top two links actually look pretty nice.

I'd pass on your third link. Looks "sort of" OK but, kinda NOT at the same time.

Maybe I'm just politically incorrect, but I am NOT buying anything from Pakistan.

Sorry, not going to support Pakistan insofar as I can help it. They are a terroristic country who does JUST enough to appease our government into providing them billions of dollars. I'm not going to add on top of that to support terrorist.

While the damascus blades do look great the experience I have had with Pakistani steel is that it is too soft to hold a good edge.

LOL... not fond of Pakistan, myself. I was skeptical because Pakistanis are famous for shady, underhanded deals, not to mention terrorism. I am sadly well aquainted with the culture, and it is even worse than what most people could imagine. But I know about the Sikhs and Rajputs on the Indian side of Punjab state, and their tradition of knives and swords, so you never know, they may be good, that's what I was thinking. I would definately support buying American, there are lots of artisans in this country.

I would never even consider buying from them. I wouldn't care if the blades were made by angels. Never.

I don't know any Pakistanis, but there must be some good and decent people there. Aside from the crap factories, they do have some very fine skilled craftsmen with a tradition of high-quality low-tech metalwork. My beef is with their government and I would rather let those people starve unless they rebel against those who hid the Taliban. I am nationalistic in my shopping and am willing to pay more to support that. As far as i am concerned, sending money to Pakistan and China is equivillant to spending money to kill American Servicemen. Pakistan produces a LOT of clothing, shoes, motorcycle riding apparell, etc. I always check the label. One would think that "Columbia" sporting goods would be a decent American company to buy from, but i inspected one of their parkas recently and found it was made in Vietnam! No sale. I admit that I do occasionally buy Chinese products, and can't seem to break my wife of that Walmart habit, but they haven't fired that first shot yet.

Since this thread has veered pretty far away from the specific knives in question I think that I can close it now.
