    Kimber pepper blaster ii

I have carried Sabre Red Pepper Spray and ASP Key Defender OC for almost 20 years but I was recently at our local gun store and noticed a device called a Kimber Pepper Blaster II. In my Kimber catalog it says this device shoots 2 charges at 112 MPH. Each charge
apparently shoots a large amount of OC Gel and it scatters it in a shotgun pattern (unlike the skinny stream sprays on a key chain). It is also supposed to be extremely hot because it only has Alcohol and OC while most other brands have several different emulsifiers in the formula which can reduce the heat. It is 10% OC of 4 Million SHU (400,000 in solution with 2.4% Major Capsaicinoids). Because it's not an aerosol it is unaffected by cold or heat and it shoots strong enough to work in wind.

So do any of you carry a Pepper Blaster II or have any experience with it? I picked up two yesterday and noticed that
Midway USA has them on sale for $29.99 right now (I paid $39.99). I understand it only has two shots but it sounds like if
you need more than 2 shots of this stuff you need to be using something other than pepper spray. Any feedback about this product would be great. Also I understand this does not replace a firearm and a firearm does not replace this product. Both a firearm and less lethal supplement a complete personal defense plan.

Well where are the photos of your targets? How can we properly determine the accuracy if we can't see your grouping? How's the recoil?

Just kidding! Welcome to the forum! I've looked at these in the past and I'm still considering getting one or 2. I have no experience with them.

LOl! Yeah I did not want to shoot it because they are $40 bucks a piece! Thank you for welcoming me to Defensive Carry. I have been looking for a good forum and after looking at several picked this one. I do know in 2006 when they first released the original version which looks more like a pager, it was featured on Personal Defense TV and it shot a nice pattern. I believe the only difference is the PB2 has a grip and sights.

So I decided to go outside and test the Pepper Blaster II. At a distance of 13 feet the unit does spread over a wide area and it makes it easy to hit the target. However, up close and personal (in the Baltimore County Police Study over 90% of OC deployments were at 3 feet or less) you are going to have to aim each barrel carefully at the subjects face and eyes. OC is not effective unless it hit's the eyes and as you can see in this video it is difficult to saturate the face.

Keep your finger off the trigger! :)

I've been considering one of these, but would still 'carry' it on the opposite side I carry a gun, I'd hate to grab the wrong one!

Yes I thought of that after I took the pic. Even with less lethals we should keep our finger off the trigger until ready to fire. Your trigger finger is your primary safety and it would be good to get in the habit of practicing this with all weapons. However, with my Sabre canister if I feel like I am in a dangerous situation I unlock it and place my finger on the actuator button. That is what all of my OC manuals have instructed.

I've been looking at those, and wondering if they were worth the price. I'm likewise unimpressed with your test results, so I'll guess I'll pass on this product.

Thanks for posting - and welcome to the forum!

    112 MPH = 164.26 Feet per second.
    I can sneeze that fast....

Humor aside, I still would rather have a
    container w/cone delivery.

I bought them mainly due to the fact they were recommended by the CCW instructor. They have a fairly good reputation for use on mean dogs, haven't ever seen any reviews on humans.

I like the fact that they use a charge instead of aerosol. Hate the new design, the old "Phaser I" style was easier to carry, had a clip, and for me, easier to aim than the stupid pistol design.

bought each of my daughters one.

Well I appreciate all the input here. I think I will stick with my ASP Key Defender OC spray. It is refillable and can be used as a striking tool or Kubotan/Key Flail. I think someone is much more likely to have access to an ASP Key Defender in an emergency.
