Id go with Cold Steel. KaBar and Spyderco are nice as well.
I have a Leek, and honestly I wouldn't want to use it as a defensive knife.
Getting a grip on the plain metal handles with sweaty hands isn't going to work very well, and the lock up on it doesn't seem very secure to me for hard use.
It's handy, and fine for opening boxes and mail and whatnot, with the assisted opening. I just have other knives I prefer if it is a knife that I may deploy in a defensive manner.
spyderco baby - Spyderco!
Cold Steel makes the most durable folders for that price range.
I EDC a AK-47. It has a thumb stud that does the exact same thing as the "wave" feature of other knives.
Get the Cold Steel AK-47 Knife for less at Walmart.com. Save money. Live better.
I actually just got a great deal on a new spyderco tenatious so if I end up liking it ill prob go ahead and order an American made model
Spyderco Sage 1 for normal tasks and a Benchmade 710 for harder use. I don't really consider either a defense knife unless that's all I have left. I don't practice or have I trained in knife combat.
SOG Aegis Tanto. Excellent! Very Sharp. Easy to open with your weak side hand.
For a simple, non-defensive EDC blades, I'd recommend a Spyderco Delica, or Benchmade Mini-Griptilian. I'm sure the two knives would do ok if forced into a defensive situation. But I'd prefer a bigger knife. Luckily, there is the bigger versions of those two knives, the Spyderco Endura and Benchmade Griptilian (full size).
I currently use a spyderco delica FFG. I don't think you can go wrong it.
my EDC knives are either a Spyderco Harpy, a CRKT M16-14SFG or a Benchmade Stryker.
Consider the Ultimate Equipment M-1911 knife. I've had mine for over a year. Excellent quality, easy function, holds an edge, and you can match the grips on yer 1911 if you want to...
