How do I find out if *this* is legal in my state?

How do I find out if this is legal in my state: Equalizer Kitty Key Fob - Bang Bang Boutique, LLC

I know its a frivolous looking piece of gear, but as someone who grew up with the "fingers laced with keys" trick, this seems like it would do a better job. I just don't know what it's called.

I'm asking also because I would like to get one for my friend (who is not quite "there" yet with carrying a gun for SD). Thanks!

    (We're in Texas)

    EDIT:

so... apparently these count as brass knuckles! (but they're so cute!) And they're not legal in Texas. Thank you for all who responded.

They aren't legal to carry here. Problem is you'ld have to check city, county and state laws.

I guess I should've clarified... what exactly do you call it? They aren't brass knuckles... well... are they? I guess that's what I'm asking. I'll edit my post.

I doubt they have "bang-bang kitty key ring thingie" on the books... although I would PAY to see that!

Nope - Not legal in Texas. That item would be classed as Knuckles in Texas.

Knuckles as defined in Texas Prohibited Weapons:

    8) "Knuckles" means any instrument that consists of finger rings or guards made of a hard substance
and that is designed, made, or adapted for the purpose of inflicting serious bodily injury or death
by striking a person with a fist enclosed in the knuckles.

Like putting lipstick on a pig. You can "pretty it up" but, it's still a pig...or a kitty....or "knucks."

Doggone wimpy ass lawmakers hate anything that is fun.

Well shucks... my quest must continue! On a side note, my husband was so thrilled when we were searching for my first CC weapon and I insisted on it being just regular steel (i.e. no pink or girly frills). He had no idea that pertained only to the weapon itself and not every other accessory I could get my hands on. *LOL*

    That poor man.

I would rather have something that would protect you from a distance anyway. Like pepper spray. They sell them at the local academy. Or just get a pocket knife. They are cute though!

You could always carry a roll of penny's, or quarters, whatever fits your hand better. Would give you a solid fist.

I don't know about that product but the one that is legal in every state and always with you is your keys. Have them in you hand to open the door, press the panic button, or use for self defense. This should be carried in your weak hand so that if you have to draw you are ready. ON that note anything else that is carried should leave the strong hand free.

Yes, I do carry pepper spray already... and a knife. This was more one of those "ooh pretty!" moments... and for my friend, it's more like trying to sneak in some self-defense where ya can. She's really not open to that sort of thing right now and is moving to Boston.

    Semper Fi,
Thank you so much! And I totally get the bro-fistbump kinda love you're talking about.

Hey... I didn't come up with the name. I just found it. And yes, the subculture of the female self-defense realm (at least those geared towards newbies) is dripping with catch phrases that seek to pair self-defense with being sexy and feminine. ("Lil Classy, Lil Nasty" is my personal favorite)

From a marketing standpoint, it's genius. Women buy. We buy multiples too... for ourselves, for our friends and for our mothers.

I didn't even think about that. I don't actually get my CHL for another month or so (or however long it takes Austin to process my stuff after I send it in next week). There's definitely going to be a mindset shift for me. I'm familiar with the key trick b/c I used it for years when I was living in NYC and DC, but I have to admit, it's terribly uncomfortable. And now I drive a vehicle that doesn't use keys (just a fob), so my key ring "poke" has shrunk considerably. Guess I'll just have to stick with pepper spray or get comfy with the idea of drawing, should I ever need to.

As long as women have the ability to defend themselves I can accept that. Lil Nasty? You're a funny gal.

I almost bought my wife something similar to that "kitty" at the gun show.

I would check TX state laws as they pertain to concealed weapon. Somewhere they will have a definition of what constitutes a "weapon" and unable to be concealed. TX State police might be a good sourse as well.Try a Google search for TX gun laws and concealed weapons.
