    Happy Birthday to Me!

So, the wife asks me what I want for my birthday.

    "A 16" AAC 300 Blackout upper!" sez I.

"No, really what do you want ?" she replies.

    "Did I stutter?" I quip(and duck).

"OK, What do you want that I can afford to get you?" she asks with a decidedly annoyed look.

"How about a ZT 0560 Flipper?"

The "You know I don't have a clue about your knives." look was all that I got from that one.

Fortunately for me she's a good sport and knows my passion for quality steel and this one came home with me today.

It's a long standing tradition with us. Oneupmanship on the gifts.

Eventually she'll owe me that AAC upper!

BTW, my last gift to her was a Beretta Tomcat that she fell in love with when she first saw one.

So let's turn the question around... what does SHE ask for at gift-giving time?

Usually guns or tools. Did I mention that my wife was the first woman to ever be certified as a Lincoln welder repair technician? She's not your average girl and I am one lucky man!

    (Ok, she left the room.)

We don't always do "gifts" sometimes it's just a good dinner out or a favorite meal prepared. When we do gifts they're always practical, guns, knives, tools, ammo, etc.

She's been out of that line of work for quite some time now. She's my office manager and shop assistant now.

Her sister just got married this past summer, sorry Taurahe!

Anyone have a Chris Reeve Sebenza?

While I was dickering for the ZT (this was at a gun show and the dealer is a professional "Buddy" we give each other deals when we can and trade favors regularly), My knife guy took a beautiful mirror finish large Sebenza with the drop point blade in on a trade. I'd never handled one before and I was amazed at the smooth action. The ZTs are top notch but when I touched the flipper on that Reeve folder the blade flicked out so fast and strong that I'd have bet money it was assisted. The lock up was as tight as a vault and there was absolutely zero play in the pivot. 100%rock solid.

It's easy to get a fast flipper. It's easy to get a solid lock up. both together is great and this was the fastest non assisted opener I've ever touched.

I tried to get him to put a price on it for me but he slid it into his pocket and said "This one's going reside right here, for a while at least." Here's a guy with several hundred K in stock, MicroTech, ProTech, Pirhana, Zero Tolerance, Benchmade, Strider, Al Mar, Spyderco, etc. and he pocketed the Chris Reeve. That tells me something.

I think I know what's on the list for the next B-Day question!

So, your wife bends and busts metal = cool!

Oh, on the 'soft' things about dinner and 'around time'........... I'm all good with that. Don't need a 4th ex.............
