I have a collection of old Collins Machetes. I also buy and use Tratamontes on my farm, I also have other brush cutting tools. Once a person gets used to the heft and balance of the tool with either hand, a lot of work can be accomplished if it is sharpened correctly.
It definatly would be a scarry weapon in an emergency in the hands of someone used to using one.

I bought this one for use during a Jungle Environment Survival Training (JEST) in the Philippines. While it will cut lots of things I found out quickly the blade wasn't heavy enough to slice through green bamboo.

I'm a child of the 60's, but I got over it.
