    Need some knife help....

any suggestions for a survival knife in the 50 dollar range that is not a military style knife. A friend is putting together a 3 day bag and I thought i would suprise him with a gift. I was going to get a Kbar like mine, but he doesnt like military style knives. That makes me sad, and kind of lost. Before anyone goes there, yes I am aware Esee, becker, etc etc etc make amazing knives, but I cant afford one for myself let alone for a gift, so 50 ish bucks is the limit. Looking for something with decent steel, full tang, a thick blade suitable for batoning ( no saw backs please), and an over all length of no more than 10 or 11 inches. Thanks for the help

The ESEE Izula is in the $50-60 range. It is actually my main backpacking knife, backed up with a tomahawk for heavy chopping tasks.

But it really is a lot of knife in a small package.

I would think that Buck probably has something that would fit your bill. Buck B&C Guide, Plain Edge, 9 5/8" Overall

Yes, completely agree, check out ESEE. Survival, hard use knives are their religion.

Mora HD or Mora Bushcrafter and a custom sheath from grizzlyoutdoors together would be about $50

Get him a KaBar. As a gift from a friend he likely will keep it and grow to love it, as he should.

Yes. Definitely check the offering by Condor. Knifecenter has a good selection of that brand. I would pick the Varan ($36).
