Smiths sharpening system. You can get it at walmart. Comes with 3 stones and is really easy to use. You cant screw it up. Only cost like 20 bucks. Thats what I use and it leaves an edge that you can literally shave with. Oh yea, it does serrated edges too.

Years, and years ago I purchased a set of ceramic stones from Spyderco. I still have them, at the time they were the one of the few that was doing the serrated edges, and you use the edges of the triangle to sharpen the serration. The stones are held on the proper angle so all you need to do is keep the blade vertical. A good flatstone is also valuable, I like the diamond empregnated ones, they can be had for $20. Look up Smokey Mountain Knife Works, they have a great selection.
A good old Arkansa oil stone is also hard to beat.

i enjoy sharpening my knives and don't stop until they shave, all i ever use is a stone and a strop.

I would look for a Spyderco Sharpmaker. Very versatile and very easy to use with great results!!

I have a Meyerco Sharpen-it, designed by Blackie Collins and it will put a scary edge at the proper angle on any blade.

Look around and they can be found from 20 to 30 bucks.
