    No idea if it is nameable - in fact has a slight look of a home crafted blade.

    I am no blade expert tho so possibly someone can give it a category even if not actual name.

    In precise technical terms, that's a BFK. :)
    A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.

    cj;

    I'm sure the "natives" probably have a name for that blade in their culture which may or may not be determined here, but you are correct in that it is almost identical to whats been commonly known in this country as the Arkansas Toothpick.

    There are pics in museums and elswhere of uniformed confederate soldiers carrying the Ark Picks in the civil war.

    The pictured knife is almost assuredly handmade.

    I wouldn't mess with that man either for one reason (and not due to the size of the knife.....oh heck....short sword he's carrying): he's probably had that knife for years, using it day-in and day-out as a tool. At this point, it's become an extension of his hand. As such, he can probably wield it extremely well without thinking about it.

    A side note, the knife cultures that exists out there (Filipinos, some Hispanics...Puerto Ricans, Cubans and Dominicans, and others) have become accustomed to carrying knives from very early in life. I've had an edge weapon of one sort or another since I was about 10 years old. I usually carry two (not something that big though!) on my person everyday.

    That is a version/handmade copy of a European Hunting sword. In 15th-18th centruy Spain (and Europe for that matter) it was used for hunting hogs, dismounted after the dogs had cornered it. It appears that this Filipino gentleman has kept a copy that was made in the PI. (Remember that PI was a Colony of Spain until the Spanish/American war. see link:http://www.hallowellco.com/german_hu...ith_damasc.htm

    Mystery Knife

    That "BFK" the gentleman in the photo is holding appears to be one of the weapons made by local smiths out of truck leaf springs. I had one years ago that definately would'nt win any beauty pagents, but held a hell of an edge. The springs are used as a source of raw material.

    I bought a kukri from Himalayan Imports that is made from a truck leaf spring. It's high carbon steel. Talk about a beautiful knife. Does anyone know the pros and cons of leaf spring steel for blades? I would assume that you cannot get much stronger then the leaf spring from a tractor trailer. The beauty of some of the high carbon blades at Himalayan Imports is almost indescribable.
