    Ontario (OKC) RAT-7

I just picked up an Ontario RAT-7 NIB in a trade. This is my first Ontario knife and I'm a bit disappointed with the edge OTB. Not sharp by an stretch of the imagination. The grind is even and centered but there's no real edge at all.

I don't expect these lower priced knives to be hair popping sharp but they should at least be able cut their way out of a wet paper bag.

Is this normal for Ontario or did I just find the one that slipped by final inspection?

BTW, I also got a TOPS Fire Strike in the deal but I don't pick it up for a couple weeks.

That seems a bit odd to me, I have had a couple of Ontario's, and they were sharp out of the box.

You got it second hand. Maybe it has been used.

Not second hand, this was through a dealer and it looks pristine, just not sharp. I can fix the edge, I just found it bit odd that it was this way OTB from a company with as good a reputation as Ontario.

It looks like it never had an edge on it.. The black coating goes all the way to the edge. When I got my Rat 3 it was very sharp, you could see where the edge was applied. I would send that picture to the company, see what they have to say. If you really don't want to deal with it you can just send it to me.

That's just the lighting. There is definitely an edge bevel, just not a sharp one. I've never sent a knife to anyone for sharpening. If I can't sharpen it, I shouldn't have it!
