God did not make me a good photographer.

Nevertheless I was playing with my toys here earlier and came across what's probably still my favorite traditional fixed blade. Yes I have gone on to flashier and more expensive knives but this one was my first and truthfully I won't ever find one that's truly better. It needs a good sharpening, but other than that it still looks as it did when I got it at the age of 10.

But as I started to put it away, I looked at it again and noticed it held an uncanny similarity to what's definitely my favorite handgun. Sure I'll probably go on to flashier and more expensive handguns but this one was my first and I doubt I'll ever find one that's truly better.

Horrible picture but you get the idea. Am I imagining things?

It's a Buck 119. I sharpen dozens of them at the start of hunting season. I think it's a bit big for scatting a dear, but it would make a great camp knife.

Or if you're in the wilderness. With Betty. Oh, we did this joke.

And a 686-2. I assure you it's unloaded and facing a solid backstop as I was a little nervous about placing that shell inside the trigger guard.

I think the current incarnation of the 686 has the lock and I believe an MIM frame mounted hammer. I actually like this older model better and can't believe the luck I had in finding it without really trying.
