Although I've never been to a Bass Pro as we don't have any up here in Minnesota we do have several Cabela's stores scattered throughout the state. I usually make it down to Cabela's once a year or so, mostly just to look around and drool since their prices are generally higher than most places, although bargains can be found. We also have a Gander Mountain right here where I live, but I really don't like going there because their sales staff is usually not very helpful or knowledgeable in my experience.

When I went to the store I mentioned in the thread starter, I wasn't thinking about the reports I had read here of (some of) their stores being posted (in some way); I did, however, try to take an inconspicuous look around the front of the store before entering, and I did not see any sign of any type relating to bringing weapons inside.

And yes, they did have people signing up for CCW classes at the firearms counter.

You should see the Bass Pro in Vegas. I was stunned when we drove up, and even more so when I walked in.
I've never been to another, but this place was ridiculously huge, with hundreds of mounts set up in all sorts of cool scenes.
Lions stalking gazelle, bears fishing, a giraffe, hundres of fish hanging from the ceiling.

It was also attached to a casino with a large tropical fish tank with mermaids! The girls would swim around and breath from respirator hoses throughout the tank. Very cool.

I hear that we are getting a Bass Pro shop in Phoenix, I will probably check it out. I went to Cabelas last friday night with a friend, I found one good deal, 500ct 230gr FMJ .45 bullets for $36.00 a box, bought 4 and some primers. My buddy and his wife spent $1200.00 on reloading stuff, spotting scope, etc etc. They were a little white when they made it to the jeep. That was what the trip was for though so......

Jeff, I haven't been in that store for a long while but when you go in on the counter on the left side there was a sign asking you to check your weapon in. Unless there is something that I can't find anywhere else in the world or they have a super great price, I don't go in there because I refuse to check my gun in in front of anybody that walks in the store.

Miggy, point taken. But when a store won't enforce such a policy, it tells me that it's more a token thing than something they really mean they want people to do. I shrug it off and carry anyway.

Now, are you sure that the sign you mentioned refers to CCW? Someone has already stated that it could be about bringing guns in for service or other reasons, not CCW... I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt; and truthfully, there's no good reason I can think of for bringing a non-CCW gun in loaded.

I agree with you, there's no way I would blow my "cover" by disarming in front of people. Some concerns:
    - what if they lose/damage my gun while they have it?
    - what if someone wants to try to ambush me in the parking lot to relieve me of it?
    - won't they require the gun to be unloaded and made safe while checked? When will I get the opportunity to reload and chamber a round? Right there when I get it handed back to me? Surely they would object to my reloading right there, which means taking the gun out to my car unloaded, which is something I would never willingly do.

Good point all. I forgot to mention that if I myst go in that store, I leave the gun secured in my truck in a Cenetr-of-mass safe.

There is a new Bass Pro being built by the Dolphin Mall in Miami-Dade and it should be open sometime in the near future (they already one year behind.) This one will be more Saltwater oriented that the one in Dania Beach.
