Looking for best quality brand.
My vote for number one overall is Randall Made Knives
For folders it would be Benchmade,
Mass produced fix blades would be Callimus Cutlery but the went out of business so it’s a tie between Ka-Bar and Ontario Knife Company
I have a cold steel ak,I can tell you it will chop trough a two by four I know Iv done it with out any losening of the blade .I have several bench mades and love em but my carry is a sig tac auto opener and its fantastic bought it because the spring was stronger than the bench made. Auto opener man got to love utah
I answered "Other" because you didn't list SPYDERCO.
Of the brands you listed, there is only one I consider of passable quality, and that is Benchmade. (Actually, I consider them of excellent quality.)
Schrade? CRKT? Kershaw?! No way, guys. Spyderco has those all beat by a huuuuuge margin.
i love my benchmades ,,,have about 4 different blades to choose from
Randall no doubt if price is no issue.
To get a new one the waiting list is out to 2012
I carry a Spyderco Endura. Love it.
I have a bunch of Spydercos and a smaller number (but still a good bunch) of Benchmades, and I rate their quality to be about equivalent. Spyderco has more models that suit my fancy, though, specifically because I'm a "thumbhole guy" much more than a "thumbstud guy" when it comes to opening methods.
My Benchmade Mini Griptilian 555 (plain edge, thumb hole) remains one of my all-time favorite knives. It's currently seeing time in my EDC rotation, and is on my pocket as we speak.
My other favorite lately is the Spyderco Delica 4 with the "wave" feature. If you all haven't tried this thing, you must! It's incredible. When you do it right (something that is not difficult to do), the knife comes out of your pocket locked open. Far better than even the Kershaw assisted opening. It's virtually like carrying a fixed blade in your pocket.
What about Emerson Knives, I love Benchmade but man those Emerson folders are sweet.
Best is opinion. That said I voted Benchmade. Emmerson is a close 2nd.
SOG and Cold steel are both good for midgrade.
I carry my benchmade 19 out of 20 times.
G-23, 27, 35 (all .40)
Les Baer Thunder Ranch 5"
i'm really pleased with my gerber right now.
the full tang has little "Serrations" along the exposed part of the handle. you could gut a cow with it and it still wouldn't slip. Some pretty hard thrusting into a 2x4 and it didn't budge even with sweaty palms.
To those that paid for my freedom,
I WILL NEVER FORGET.
As with all statements I've made and All that I will make, please check your local laws to verify accuracy. (and if i'm wrong let me know as I like to be right in the future) After all I'm just some goofball posting on an internet forum.
In my opinion you didn't list any truely "quality" makers. It is pure opinion on what is "best" anyway. First of all, what is the knife for? For example, if you wanted a pure fighting knife, I might say a full tang Randall or DeLeon Sub Hilt... whereas a Jim Behring hidden tang scagel style knife might not be suited for that task although Jim Behering is the best living maker in my opinion (scagel style). So best isn't always the right answer because so many knives do so many things. If it's a tactical style knife (assuming because of the brands you did list) then my vote would go for two more that you didn't list and are difinately top quality and worth checking out. TOPS Tactical and FOX Knives in Italy.
Never criticize a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes...that way, when you criticize him, you're a mile away and you have his shoes.
I voted other because you didnt list Al Mar...
Nine votes for Kershaw, but only one comment about them...I take my Kershaws everywhere...
The last Blood Moon Tetrad for this millennium starts in April 2014 and ends in September 2015...according to NASA.
