looking for a one handed opener thingie...

    Hi guys.

You have all seen the folders with a little knob on one side of the blade that you use to open it. Heck it seems every $0.99 chinese knife I see lately has one.

At any rate i met a guy at a gun show a while back that had one on his Buck 110.(I, like Trourist, have long had a fondness for the old 110) Upon closer inspection it was a usiversal type deal that had a set screw in it which you tightend to hold it on. I asked him where he got it, and he responded that he got it that way in a trade. Ever since then I have wanted one for my old Kabar that I carry on a daily basis.

Anyone have an idea of who might carry these?

You want a One Armed Bandit. I have one on my 110.

There are two models, one for blades 3/8" or thinner and one thicker. You want the first one. The one for thicker blades is too big.

Smokey Mountain Knife Works carried them and I think they still might, but their website is horrible. I'd call them and ask.

    Expect to pay $4-$6.

    Thanks Euclidean.

That has been bugging me for months. Why I didn't think to post about it sooner is a mystery to me. LOL

    'Samaritan,

Yes, the Buck 110 is one of my favorite knives. In fact, if we started one of those debates where we asked "if you could only have one," I'd be torn between a Buck 110 and a traditional stiletto.

The final decision would have to be strength and pratical use.

Here, I've got it covered. There are companies that re-manufacture Buck 110's into automatic openers. Yes, I mean 'switchblades.'

    Oh, the horror!

Wouldn't that make it an "automatic" felony in most states?
May the Schwartz be with you

LOL! How much money are they? I doubt I would buy one, but I like the idea.

At any rate, I only own one 110 at the moment and it is very old. It was my Dad's and I don't want to take a chance on loosing it.
My daily carry knife at the moment is a very similar vintage Kabar 1189

    Thingie Search

Try one of the dedicated knife stores for your thingie. I bought 2 of them a few years back here in Balto. & they worked great! AND they stayed on. Stay Safe & happy hunting!
