Well, a military K-Bar ain't bad. Even better, I have my fathers WWII Naval Engineer. Double stamped by both Union Cutlery and K-Bar. It's worth a lot as a collector but went with me on many a back woods trip when younger.

Now that I know it's history it has too much value except in a real SHTF situation. It's carrier survived 5 amphib assaults, maybe some of that would rub off on me......

Gerber Camp Axe...everything I need is on the LEATHERMAN for small cutting jobs. The camp axe can be use as a big knife if you maintain it sharp. And if I need to cut some small trees or split small wood...I have the weight in the blade where it belongs.

Hmm... camp axe. Not a bad idea at all. I think that just might be the ticket.

This one [ Bill Bagwells Hells Belle in damascus ], over all others if I can take only one knife.

It will hold an edge longer than most, sharpen on a smooth rock if and when dulled, chop anything I'd need to chop, skin anything I needed to skin, defend against two legged critters I might run into. The point will do fine work, the sharpened clip on the blade can be used for heavy chopping, the blades edge sharp enough for surgical work.

11 1/8" blade, balanced so well that you can't tell there's a blade at the end of the handle when wielding it.

It's also $5000.00+ and a 3-4 year wait to get one now.

That Gerber Gator is a neat little idea.

The One I'm using now is a GRYPHON

I liked it so much I bought a few.
This one but, mine are the larger 13.5" OAL
Not being made anymore I don't think.

I never was happy with the supplied sheaths though so that's my next project.
Just to make a plain leather custom sheath for one of them exactly the way I want it.

I think I'm also going to buy the "machined from 1 piece of steel" Chris Reeve Shadow one which is one heckova tough and large knife and has the added plus of the waterproof storage in the handle & I'd like put a firestarter kit in that handle. The size is just right (for me) AKA slightly larger than a typical Combat/Utility and proved great quality.
It's NOT an inexpensive knife though at $415.00 MSRP.

If I were not capable of taking the Bagwell Bowie for any reason, this Covington Damascus Bowie would be the next choice.

    Thanks for the comments sir.

I like both, wouldn't carry the Bagwell unless the scenario dictated I take one only, but I carry that Greg Covington bowie from time to time just because I can.

I need to get another of each from these guys this year. Covington will make a great 8 inch blade with the elkhorn for me this year, and Bagwell will let me know when one of his Belles becomes available without the wait time [ I've bought three of his Belles in the past and trained with him on the long knives twice so I have some pull with him ]

Bagwell's coming to Ohio in the near future, here's a link to the notice:

Just One?... My first thought is that it must be a fixxed blade for durability and strength. The blade on my knife is only 4" and I'd prefer a little longer for a "do everything" But it's so tough and served me well so we'll go with it!
Check out www.ironmountainknives.com The knife maker is a Pekiti Tirsia instructor and completely customized my knife in 2004. Mine is single edge (unlike photo) check out the reversed handle.

Just one, it would have to be this one. It was made by one of my clients. It isn't the best looking of the ones I have from him but it is durable and will keep an edge. You can gut and skin a deer if need be and still shave with it. The total blade lenght is 6 1/4 inches which should work for most things.

Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

    farronwolf,

whats the steel used in the custom from your client? That blade looks heavy duty, and if it's made from the right steel, would make one hell of a blade for SHTF scenarios.

BTW, I forgot to mention that-The Bagwells and Covington are both 5160 tool steel. Differentially heat treated.
