The 1,000 foot thing reminded me of another thought on this. I can't remember the last time I drove without going within 1,000 feet of a school. The odds of being stopped are obviously very low, but this almost seems like a good enough idea to justify the CWP even if you don't plan on carrying. There are other lesser reasons -- like ease of travel to the range. The law allows travel to and from the range. Not sure how it would handle stopping for lunch, shopping, etc.

That's why there's such a stink over the rule. It's awful hard to drive if you live near a school without violating the rule (if you have guns or whatever on your person or in your vehicle).

I'm going to assume it's not permitted until I can find out otherwise, though. I doubt my college will "turn me in", given how much its staff seems to ask me to borrow my knife, but better safe than sorry.

A college is not a school in Florida. You shouldn't have a problem with a common pocketknife at a Florida college. It is not considered a weapon until used as such.
Gun control can be blamed in part for allowing 9/11 to happen.
