Virginia Knife Questions
I want to pick up a quality pocket knife, it will be used for utility mostly but I suppose secondary consideration could be put forth to some defense......
I'm a pretty avid outdoorsman, camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, so that's what my knife would be used for most likely.
#1 - My firs question is, are auto knives illegal in Virginia? I like the Benchmade Axis Lock Auto's but dont want to risk it on something that isnt legal........
#2 - Based on my interests what knives would you all recommend? If autos are out I''m open to other folding knives, and I would like it to cost less than $100 if it's a folder I'm willing to spend more to get an auto but if their illegal here then they're out, I dont really want to carry a fixed blade, and I prefer a straight blade as opposed to serrated.....(I really like benchmade knives)
Thanks in advance guys.

Benchmade Griptillian. They come with a normal thumb hole but I had a buddy modify mine to turn it into a wave opening knife. Its a faster opening knife then any auto knive and its a really solid knive I have a picture of mine on my hope computer.

You might consider an "assisted opening " knife instead. There's a slim difference, but enough usually to make them legal. Instead of pushing a button to have the blade spring out, with assisted opening, you start the knife opening with your thumb, but then the mechanism takes over, rapidly opening the blade. I carry the SOG Flash II (Check it out at SOG Flash II (Partially Serrated))

#1: yes, autos are illegal in VA
#2: the Spyderco Delica or Endura can be purchased with the "wave" option (a hook on the blade you can snag on the edge of the pocket when you draw for instant opening) in your price range.
No state statutory blade length limit in VA, but several cities have limits in the 3 to 3.25 inch range.

Assisted open are legal and Auto are out of the question unless you are a LEO.
