my brother going to Florida. Defence tools/rights?

    Hello all!
My little brother is going to Florida and is 16 yrs.
    My question is:
Do my brother as an visitor has any rights to carry any defence tools?
As Knifes, OC, Batons or something else? Dont know what he is placed as when hes has the visum for a year and when hes going to live there.
And if so where when and how? Just want to get right answer if someone live there or have the info/knowledge about the laws/rules.
Just a little woried about him. Are there any differents between you as an american citizen and him as an one year citizen?

In Florida you have to be 21 years of age to carry a CONCEALED weapon and 18 to POSSESS a weapon. Keeping it securely encased while in the vehicle is legal at 18.

I also believe this includes weapons such as OC Sprays etc. Cant be concealed unless you are 21 and cannot be purchased unless you are 18.

In your brothers case, not being an American citizen, I am not sure how the Florida law applies.

It is certain that he wouldnt be able to bring his own firearm from Sweden. He is also too young to possess a weapon in the United States. He is also too young to purchase a weapon in the United States so he cant get one once he is over here.
I am consistently on record and will continue to be on record as opposing concealed carry.

I would carry a pen or something similar to use as a kubaton. A very bright flashlight with a crenelated strike bezel would be excellent.

I do not see anything in Florida law that would prohibit him from carrying OC spray, stun gun, taser, or pocket knife. By all means, somebody correct me if I'm wrong. Statutes & Constitution :View Statutes : Online Sunshine

In Florida you need a ccw to even carry a pocket knife technickly Don't even try a baton or pepper spray.

    Hello All,

Been here quite awhile..and have enjoyed reading alot of posts.

I live in Fl. with a 16 yr old daughter and she carries a 800,000 volt

stun gun when she's out walkin' the dogs.

Section 790.053 Open carry of weapons - (2) a person may openly carry, for purposes of lawful self-defense: (b) a non-lethal stun gun or remote stun gun or other non-lethal electric weapon or device which does not fire a dart or projectile and is designed solely for defensive purposes. {Editor's note: Section b allows the open carry of an AIR TASER since it is tethered and disperses coded material as defined in Section 790.001.)

790.22 Use of BB guns, air or gas operated guns, electric weapons or devices or firearms under sixteen; limitation--

    (1) The use for any purpose whatsoever of BB guns, air or gas operated guns, electric weapons or devices or firearms as defined in 790.001 by any child under the age of 16 is prohibited unless such use is under the supervision and in the presence of an adult.

Hope this helps answer your question.

Thanks Mike. And according to Florda law, your average pocket knife is not a weapon (unless used as one) and may be possessed by a person under 18 years old.
