    Special Wallet...

Ok, I'm not sure if this belongs in Knives & Other Weapons or in Related Gear & Equipment. If I'm wrong feel free to move this thread. Ok, so here's my idea:

For awhile now, we've been talking about scenarios where a BG wants our wallet, so we employ a dummy wallet, throw it to distract him, etc. What if someone constructed a special wallet? It would look like a regular wallet, but when the fold was opened, a small (but loud and bright) explosion would go off, surprising and disorienting the thug. Think of a small, flat flashbang grenade wrapped in leather.

What do you guys think? Is this sort of thing even legal? Has anyone tried it? Maybe a DIY self-defense project?

sounds great! where do I buy it ;-)

Any legal issues with that? (using explosives other then a handgun for self defense? Fireworks laws? No idea how this would be dealt with...)

I am not sure about the bang, but I am sure some kind of led panels could work for a bright light. Doesn't sound like a bad idea.

Explosives would in most states be illegal I would guess.

I don't think carrying an explosive on you is a good idea.

Probably better to just throw an empty wallet.

This sounds like a good idea to me if properly manufactured. I don't think you are talking about something powerful enough to blow a hand off, (or are you). Now that may be a better idea, but I digress. I carry explosives on me every day in the form of bullets. Properly manufactured they are completely safe.

LEDs sounds like a better idea. Any form of explosive woud probably be considered fireworks in most states. In Florida, fireworks that actually "explodes or lifts off" is illegal. (rough interpretation of the law). Bullets are not considered fireworks.

What were those fireworks called? They came in a tiny black bag and when you lit them they made a god-awful amount of light and a huge crackling noise. You could use those with the fuse from a party popper... Hmm. I may actually try this... Umm, I mean... after carefully considering the law, don't try this at home...

Let us know if you get it to work. I would definitely be interested in having one to leave out at bedtime for the wife. Maybe then she will stop getting my lunch money.
