    ASPs illegal in SC?

To my friends in South Carolina....
Do you know if ASPs (collapsible batons) are illegal in SC? I've done some research here and on the SLED website and have not found a definitive answer.

According to a local S.O. Staff Sergent they are not illegal, but why would you want one if you can carry a gun?

Or are you thinking of non-gun carry situations?

I can't carry a gun in SC...they do not recognize my VA permit.

Trying to find the next best thing...

If your state law prohibits "lead pipes" then a expandable metal baton is illegal. For concealed carry, that is. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong. An ASP is considered a deadly weapon if not applied in the proper manner. Not worth the risk... carry pepper spray.
    YMMV

Don't know about SC, but in Texas law it is classified as an "Illegal Club." If there is some such prohibition in SC law, the ASP is likely included under that. Not a direct answer, but something to look for.
Funny, though. After 15 years of stick-fighting for sport I can't carry a stick for defense, but I can carry as many handguns as I can hide/walk with .
Oh, well. Less effort on my part if TSHTF, I guess.

    Stay safe,

    Chuck Brick.
Why do I use 230 gr. for my .45acp?
    Because I can't find a source of 250 gr!

Because I don't want one person's opinion...and IMO, that is what you get when you ask the police questions. Not to mention, they "cannot provide any legal advice".

IRT carrying in VA, I would appreciate input, but I don't carry it in VA.

To the guy wondering about the legality of an ASP in North Carolina, I am not sure of the correct answer. I don't know about the state law itself, but I have driven on base a lot and they have never said anything about it. I asked the MP one day and he said "Is it for self defense?" and I told him yes and he said that it was fine. So I don't know what to tell you.
