So you started your KA-BAR training right out of the box, eh?

"IF" I had to cut my hand, I cant think of a better knife to do it with. There could be a great "war-story" in there somewhere.

I have been collecting knives for a few years now and i have cut myself with almost every one. My worst is when i went to re-sheath my USMC Ka bar and missed slicing my leg and requiring my to get 7 stitches. never again.

Always keep the edge pointed in the right direction

    Always know your backstop

Always keep your fingers OFF the handle until ready for use...

I guess its no different than slammimg your thumb with a well made hammer. It happens, its all part of the learning curve. Keep it sharp and keep it near.

Thanks for the warning. I ordered myself a Ka-Bar TDI 1480 with the CTD coupon over the weekend and I'm hoping to see it tomorrow or Thursday. I'll have to watch myself with that knife. At least you're positive that its a good self-defense knife.

I hate to admit that I get pretty careless with my knives and have cut myself with most of them. Usually while cleaning them by pulling the blade between my fingers (not the best way to clean something off of a blade). Whenever I get a new one the guys I work with get the bandaids out. My most recent purchase is a Cold Steel Ti-Lite and I have yet to cut myself with it (knock on wood).
I closed a serrated Spyderco Endura on my finger once. That bled a lot.
