Good knives...never heard anything negative about them. My next "general purpose" fixed-blade will probably be a RAT.

If you carry in Condition 3, you have two empty chambers. One in the weapon...the other between your ears.

I've got one from the day's they were made by Ontario in D2 steel. It's a basic, solid design. I haven't found anything that I needed to cut, where this wouldn't to the trick.
If These are what you are refering to they are good.

I bought the RC-3 S.W.A.T special, I like it a lot although have not used it a lot. I have many knives and they all get their turn.
I had an Ontario Rat 7 in D2, and chipped the hell out of it chopping oak.....might be the curse of Ontario.........
I have found that many of Ontario knives are high on the brittle side and chip or in one case my knife snapped off 1/3 of the blade when a knot in wood was hit. This was a gurkha shaped blade that was made for chopping. The real RAT knives are much better then the Ontario knives.
