Tradition in blade design - very pleasing - tho not so sure re the very marked finger grooves on top example.

Still - always appreciate nice blades, and the skill in their making.

    Deep Finger Grooves

I always thought that really deep, pronounced, finger grooves sort of get in the way of the versatility of a "Using Knife" and they are really bad on a constant use Camp knife or chopping machete.
A few mildly rounded humps are OK but, I do not like deep handle finger grooves on my knives. Just my opinion.
Now, if that was MY knife - Those grooves would be carefully but, radically altered.

    Are they Randles or Randall's?
If Randell, are they "Bo"s or Gary's?

    Wink Deep, pronounced, finger grooves

They were asked for by our American fighting men during the Vietnam War. They wanted to be able to hold onto the knive even if it was covered with blood or oil. This style knive was used for a lot of heavy hacking of a lot of items.

The model 14 airman can be ordered without finger grooves, I f you want a longer blsade you can order a model 15. The model one comes standard with a differnt kind of handle and a thiner blade.

    Talking Randles

Nope...those are Randles...according to the link.

I was actually going to correct the thread title spelling to Randall until I clicked on the link & saw Randle. so...we'll let them be Randles.

    I love this photo.

You guys won't believe this, but I ran across a Randall (Randle?) like the one in the second pic resting on top of the book. Ran across it at an antique show. The lady selling it was asking $70! I didn't have the money! My wife wouldn't let me dig into the money alloted to buy antiques. It was our first fight....seventeen years ago as newlyweds.
$70!!!! How much you reckon that knife is worth? Dang I still kick myself. But it wasn't worth getting into the argument with my bride, either.

Ex, that was a hell of a price if it was a Randall.

    The original "BO" Randell.
