Problem is they "paid" after being drug into court, and being threatned with multi-millions in fines, with drawing of all govt contracts and possible jail time. Ya thats standing up when you screw up. Sorry, I've been a victim of this type of bs before, lost a detective slot as the deputy chief said, "ya quit playing soldier and we'll give it to you". That was after I had returned from a counter terrorist mission in Kosovo. They too stood up for their acts, when drug into court and threatned with the recall of all federal grants they had received over the past 10 years, but the damage had been done. One thing forsure, no SOG will go with me into harms way. I'll stick with Emerson.

Had a SOG Seal Pup and a Mini Trident sheath knife. I was very disappointed in their products. Both tips were bend by sticking them into logs and they weren't sharp from the factory. It was Cedar and not in a knot. Lost all faith immediatly plus the Mini Trident's sheath was total crap. I've never spent so much money on total crap before. I'll stick with Spyderco for folding knives. Haven't picked a favorite sheath knife yet. A WWII milsurp Camilus will work well.

    Sog

I'm not thrilled with SOG company policy but, you should be warned that there ARE counterfeit SOG knock offs floating around out there.
    They are super cheap.
The hardness level on a Genuine SOG of AUS 8 steel would not allow the tip to bend.

They were both ordered from a major sporting goods company. I can't remember where from, several years ago, but I think it was from Cabelas.

    Thumbs up '75scout

That's odd. I appreciate your input & the more detailed information. Cabelas would be a very reliable source.
And the knives would not be fake if you purchased them from Cabelas.
I do believe you but, just trying to figure out how that would happen since most of their steels are Air Hardening & the final finishing step is just blasting & pacification. Trying to figure out how the steel would lose its temper to the degree that it would bend rather than snap off. Very interesting but, puzzling.

I was puzzeled too and a little angry. Also the grey finish on the blades of both knives began to wear off quickly from holster wear. I know it would have happened eventally, but it seemed to wear too easily for me.

    If you still have them

All SOG knives have a replacement guarantee for life.
You will get brand new knives.
It would be worth sendng them back.

I know that the Seal Pup has an AUS 6 Stainless blade hardened to Rockwell 57.
A HRC 57 blade steel should never bend at the tip.

I just remembered where I bought my crappy SOGs. It was Midway USA.

not enough details to form a judgement about SOG from that article.
