Never fails to amaze me that departments make their officers get tazed and sprayed with OC "so they know how effective it is".
We HAD to get sprayed with OC to be certified to carry it. Even got a certificate proving that I was dumb enough to do it.
The Taser was voluntary. In my class I was the fist to volunteer. After I got zapped, I sort of no balled everyone else. Since no one wanted to be accused of being "chicken" everyone volunteered. We even took video of it.
To be truthful, I was kind of glad that I did it. Don't get me wrong here, it totally sucked, but at least now I can respect it. I wont have to wonder what it feels like if I have to zap somebody.
One thing I have noticed, is that anyone that has ever been zapped seems to never want to go through that ordeal again. Just the mention of the possibility of being Tazed seems to be enough to unruly people that have BTDT and they chill out immediately.
The X26 is pretty much the standard in use around here. I dont know about the rest, but that one sure packs a punch.

I have been a taser user for my department for the past two years. Everyone I have tased has gone down like a ton of bricks, no exceptions. It is a wonderfully effective tool. The times when I have observed it not work, is in the winter time when bad guys are wearing those big puffy jackets that can interfere with the barbs in the skin, otherwise they are great!

You need the penetrator barbs if you having trouble with thick winter clothing.
Hydrashok, the video you saw with a bull being lit was not the X26. Taser tinkered around with a agricultural model, it was a modified M26. It was a lot different than the L.E. models.

Yah i wasnt sure because the model was red or something and said not for use on humans, but either way i wouldnt want to get hit by either. When i worked for Si i have to get stunned and sprayed, i would much rather get stunned that sprayed.

I actually got a point or two deducted from last years otherwise perfect eval. because I didn't use the Taser more. I prefer hands on still.

One tool I've never used for its intended purpose was my ASP. I've used enough for other things that I still carry it though.

I've whacked a dog with mine and used it one time to pry two dudes apart that were fighting on the ground. One other time I pulled and that was enough to end it right there.
I quit carrying it when I started wearing the tazer. Its in my bag of tricks though.

I've broken lots of windows with it, its a decent back scratcher and it cleans the mud off my boots pretty well.
