After owning almost every brand of knife from age 8 to now ( I am 23y.o.) I will only carry Benchmade and Spyderco. The delica with a fully serrated blade will take weeks perhaps months to lose it's edge. It cuts remarkably well even when it is "dull" due to the serration/points that tend to tear through anything. But, for a straight blade, you can't go wrong with a Benchmade. They do have knives priced around 50-75 bones in the "blue" series.

Maybe I should have said that the testing they do is impressive. No doubt there are other knives that will do all the same things. And no, I don't intend to try most of them with mine. In a real world use that approximates the same stresses I would expect my Cold Steel to perform in a similar manner and expect the warranty to be honored. That said I have not put that to the test.

In my previous post I forgot something I wanted to add. I have also found that knives made by an Alabama company perform quite well. http://www.bearandsoncutlery.com/ Bear and Sons is also the company that bought all the equipment and tools from the Schrade Ellenville, New York factory.

Does anyone have a favorite knife catalog? I had some about 5 years ago, but didn't order enough to keep getting them. I can't remember the name, but it was a great catalog with pretty good prices.

Don't know if it's still around but there used to be a catalog called The Noble Collection that had some great knives, swords and some fantasy/movie stuff. Anybody know about this?

I carry a Spiderco Delica every day. Stays sharp. Great knife.

Another vote for the Kershaw Blur. Sharp as I want a knife to be, spring-assisted, and around $50 at Wally World. For a general all-purpose knife I still occasionally tote around a Schrade Old Timer. Large grip with a thick and quite strong blade.
