Friend or no, you've got to wonder about the thought processes of someone who reaches for your knife, even while playing. If you were training weapon retention specifically, okay, but just horsing around? Unwise, at best, and I'm being kind.

You know.. if he is a good friend he will not do that again. What really scares me is would he of done that with your gun? A lesson learned hopefully. Glad you are ok.

Come on guys, it was probably an accident from screwing around with buddies.

+1 on the picture, very cool. Too bad there will not be much of a scar for a fake story, because your story will suck to tell people face to face. BTW, he owes you at least a case of beer, Sierra Nevada preferably.

Yeah... but knife is a weapon. You don't screw around with it.

Well, there is an old saying that it isn't your knife until your have drawn your own blood with it. It think it's safe to say that you can claim total ownership of that blade.

for everyone that says he needs new friends, I'd say it must be nice for you to be surrounded by only perfect individuals who never make a mistake (careless or not). I'll agree a knife is a weapon, etc. and sure they should know better. But *&^% happens, right?

+1 on carrying that knife - nothing wrong with carrying it, but I'd say that friend never should have grabbed your knife. Time to have words with him and make sure he understands it's not a toy and if he ever does that again there will be hell to pay.

WOW. Several of you are awfully serious about his friend.
I am 44 and got cut (6 stitches) fooling around with my knife (also a spiderco)about 6 months ago. No biggie, two men acting like boys. My buddy felt really bad about it. It wasn’t his fault, it was our fault. Take a breath for gosh sakes, not everything is a confrontation.

That said, I bet you leave you hands off of his cookies in the future.

I'm sure your friend feels real bad about you getting hurt and I bet he never grabs a knife out of a pocket again. I hope you learned to never grab at a knife again unless there isn't any choice. So you both should have learned something out of this little episode. And the biggest lesson of all, bring lots more cookies!
