Stop acting like we're fightin' for "freedom". We are ALREADY....free.
If I could afford one I would carry a Shivworks Clinchpick I feel this is the best tool for self defense using a knife because if you can square off and slash your knife around in the air, you could be running instead. Stabbing and thrusting techniques when the bad guy(s) are already ON you is the way to go IMO. For it to get to this point you are truly ambushed or have failed at Self Awareness. You also dont have your gun and are force to use a knife. Squaring off and slashing at them daring them to attack is foolishness. you should be running. If they are ON you, it doesnt get any better than the clinch pick. Since I cant afford one of those right now I carry a CRKT Kommer IFB and employ the same principles. It comes with a kydex sheath with great retention. Here is a good review of the Kommer Both knives are legal in Texas because the blades are shorter than 4 inches and are not doublesided. Each is exceptionally concealable for a fixed blade
If it is legal for you fixed blade carry is the way to go given any choice. I carry mine lWB tucked horizontal behind the belt buckle with a static cord at the tip of the sheath looped on the belt so it wont drop too deep
Here is another knife that follows the same principle: :: Spyderco News ::
For slicing thru clothes and the perps underneath I carry a Cold Steel Vaquero large.
Right now i'm rockin an aegis on my right as a utility blade, i carry a sog mini vulcan on my support side and i have a blink in my pocket as my gents blade. Whoever mentioned the ZING, i also have one and carried it about a week in decided that i liked it so much and the fact that my wife got it for me i only carry it on special occaisions. Really nice dress knife.
Forgot to address the OP, i would use either of my blades for defense, but if i'm carrying just one ( which is rare) i carry a pentagon elite 1 or my vulcan.
Cold Steel Voyager - 4" blade, 9 1/4" full length. I carry everyday and love it.
SOG Pentagon Elite II ~ 5" blade.
I carry a SOG Trident. Great knife, though I'm not sure I'd use it in self-defense. As far as carrying fixed-blade knives I'd be sure to check your local laws. Here in OK there are a lot of knives that are banned for the purpose of carrying, including anything with a blade on both edges of the knife, bowies, switchblades etc.
My carry, Emerson commander.
