    Finally!

She's done. Savage 12FV (.204 Ruger). She shoots great but the bipod was the last piece of the puzzle. The OEM stock on the mid price-point Savage rifles is pretty lame. I took a dremel and channeled out the forend and installed a threaded steel rod ind then bedded the foreend with Brownells bedding epoxy gel. It's not exactly an HS Precision stock but after my McJiver solution it is 95% better than it was. Now the flex from the front of the stock is virtually eliminated. She shoots real nice now.

She's shooting in the high 3's but that was with fresh brass that had not yet been fire-formed to the chamber. I expect the groups to tighten up once the brass gets cycled a few times. I am shooting 40 grain Berger, 40 grain Nosler and 39 grain Sierra BK. Typical load work-up is 27.5 grains of Varget and a CCI BR4 primer. I am going out Friday to shoot a few more loads now that the stock is "enhanced" and I will post my results over the weekend.

Pretty sweet! I love the Savage bolt actions. The factory stocks can be worked with easily as you already know. Make it the piece of work you want it to be. My best to you and yours.

Thanks RR. The bedding and bipod made it a little front heavy so this weekend I am going to mix up some tiger-hair and lead shot and fill the cavity in the buttstock to balance things out a bit. It was a great value at only $475 new. Add another $300 for scope, rings and base and I got myself a dandy woodchuck rifle.
