    Man...I thought I just answered a question just like this one on another forum...

    The .50 Beowulf came about because it is a hard hitting package for an AR.
    It is not a long range round because the bullet that it shoots has the ballistic coefficient of a brick.

    There really is no advantage to the 24 barrel other than sight radius. The long barrel is heavier, unwieldy in close quarters and bad out of balance. Since the powder is for the most part burned up, there isnt that much of a speed increase to justify it.

    For pure shooting pleasure and just tearing stuff up, I'd go with the 16". Plus, it just looks cooler.
