    Need help choosing upper for ar15

    Howdy,

    So I bought a spike's lower and I'm looking for an upper; please provide suggestions.

    Things I want in the upper:
    *Completely flat top - no triangle front sight.
    *I am going to put an EoTech and troy sights on it, if it doesn't already include that
    *Lightweight
    *16" M4 profile
    *M4 feed ramps
    *1:7 twist
    *5.56
    *Chrome lining
    *All black furniture
    *Must be ultra reliable
    *going for the KISS method

    I like this troy model, but I can't seem to find any reviews on it, although I know their sights/add on parts are high-quality. Does anyone have experience with this?

    Troy Industries CQB A4 Special Purpose Carbine

    Specifications:

    * 5.56MM NATO w/ 1/7 twist or 6.8mm SPC w/ 1/10 twist
    * 16" or 10.3" MP Inspected Barrel
    * Ultra Reliable
    * Professional Grade
    * Weight: 4.0 lbs
    * AVAILABLE IN BLACK AND FDE

    Kit Includes:

    * 1/7 Chrome Lined MP Barrel
    * TROY Folding Battle Sights
    * TROY 13.5" MRF-RX or 10" MRF-MX
    * TROY Midieval Flash Suppressor
    * TROY Low Profile Gas Block
    * Tango Down Rail Panels
    * Bolt, Carrier and Charging Handle
    I'm also looking at the Spike's Tactical 16" M4 Cold Hammer Forged upper with Daniel Defense Lite rail:

    Upper Specs-

    -Spike's Tactical M4 flat top upper receiver, Machined from a 7075 T6 Mil-Spec Forging with Mil-Spec Type III Hardcoat Anodized finish, T-markings, our logo and M4 feed ramps.
    -Barrel is Cold Hammer Forged 4150 Chromoly Vanadium Alloy, M4 barrel extention, Chrome chamber and bore, 5.56mm Nato chamber, 1:7 Twist, Magnetic particle testing on every barrel, Phosphate finish.
    -M4 Profile with Carbine length gas system.
    -Barrel is Phosphate finished under the F marked A2 front sight base OR Low profile gas block.
    -The M16 carriers are Chrome lined with a Mil-Spec phosphate finish.
    -Forged Mil-Spec carrier key, Chrome lined, attached with Grade 8 hardware and Properly staked.
    -MP tested bolt, Each extractor is fitted with a Mil-Spec black insert and Mil-Spec Viton o-ring.
    -Forged Mil-Spec Charging handle.
    -M4 hand guards.
    -A2 Flash Hider.
    -9" rail
    -Each upper also comes with an ST-T2 Heavy buffer.

    Alternatively, I have heard very good things about BCM and might get one of those. Thoughts/Suggestions?

    My price range is around $500 - $1400

    Troy Industries are top notch. I know two people with Troy uppers.

    What do you want to do with it?

    Spike's is more affordable, but kind of an unknown.

    BCM is as high quality as you can get, esp. their light weight middy or BFH (which I don't think comes pure lightweight, but has a carbine profile.)

    I don't know Troy, so cannot comment on them directly. Heard good things about them, though.

    Spikes and BCM are both top of the line equipment at great prices. Since you don't want a fixed FSB I would recommend BCM due to the options, quality, and customer service.

    Yankee Hill Machine makes some awesome pieces too in that range. They (YHM) are also OEM for several other major players in the market so they know what they are doing. Great customer service and excellent quality. Just my .02

    Another recommendation for BCM. They'll have plenty of choices that will meet your needs...

    This isn't an M4 profile barrel - but it's about as lightweight as you can get in a 16" upper without a fixed front sight:

    BCM Standard 16" Mid Length (LIGHT WEIGHT) Upper Receiver Group w/ VTAC TRX 11" Handguard

    Lewis Machine and Tool.

    Probably the only co. besides Colt and FN that makes all it's parts to current Govt. specs.

    You can add Sabre (current gov't contract), BCM, and Daniel Defense to that list.

    I got the Dominator upper from GG&G, which seems to fit your requirements. Ran about $750 when I got it.

    While you're at it, look at Mid-length gas systems. BCM makes a nice one.

    I have a strong preference for them because of (for me) a noticeably gentler recoil impulse and word of mouth reliability reports.

    Good choice! Looks like an excellent upper - a bit too much for my blood though *jealous*.

    I was going to suggest you check out pkfirearms until I saw that you had already ordered one.

    Btw, KISS and eotech don't go together - haha just yankin your chain. We're gonna need a range report when it comes it!
