Primary HD is a Glock 19.

Rem 870 pump as last line of defense, in the safe, in the safe room.

Mag tube loaded, chamber empty, safety on. I added a note to the gun with a piece of tape - "remove safety!" - since none of my handguns have safeties, and I don't want to forget while under stress.

Don't forget that "cruiser ready" also means the hammer is down as well. You do not want to be fooling with the release should the fan and poo be on a collision course.

I keep the G23 in the bed holster, in morning when I get up it goes in the handgun safe below the bed.

The mossy is in the walk-in gun safe fully loaded +1 with safety on and a label on the stock that say’s DANGER GUN IS LOADED – when I hear the police chopper in the neighborhood I go get mossy out.

I feel the G27 is safer, and easier to put away. so that’s is my main home defense gun.

Very good pointed reminder Sixto!!!...I had forgotten to include that key item in my explanation.

Will go back and edit for the late readers so this does not get missed/overlooked.

Cruiser Safe, loaded magazine, empty chamber. Most shotguns will fire if dropped or bumped hard, even ON SAFE. The internals are not like a pistol.

Excellent point. I need to check mine.

Thanks to everyone for all of the info. I wasn't aware of the issue with shotties and firing pins. The education I've received from this forum has been priceless. Thanks guys!!!

Pgrass101- BEAUTIFUL PIC! Nothing like a couple of M1 Carbines to warm the heart.

On topic, my 870 has six rounds of Reduced Recoil OO Buck in it, with four more in a sidesaddle. Chamber empty, safety off. A few boxes of OO and slugs sit on top of the safe for more ammo. Shotgun is 3rd in line behind XD9 and Ruger SP101.

Yes, let's see, you hold the trigger down, cycle, then get it into that condition. I'm sure there must be a more elegant explaination..... ?

I've had two glasses of wine so I am not commenting.

And of course I can't touch my gun right now to write down how I do this.
