    Mossberg, Benelli or Remington

    Hey people.

I'm looking at getting me a 12 ga shotgun. Which would you pick out of these three and why?

    Remington 870
    Mossberg 500
    Benelli Nova

    Thanks!

All are winners. I have an 870 that I love but I am also a huge Benelli fan boy. Truly, you can't go wrong with any of these. Reliable makers and models. Good luck deciding!

    Mossberg.

    1) location and operation of the safety, it's very intuitive.

    2) location and operation of the slide release. so easy to do with middle finger of right hand.

    3) accessorizing is so easy, lots to choose from.

Go work the actions of all three and see which is best.

I agree with all three...UNTIL you add a pistol grip stock. Everything is still easy to do with a pistol grip stock, except operating the safety. To operate the safety with a pistol grip stock you have to break your grip. Because of this I leave my 500 with a full mag, empty chamber, and safety off. All I have to do is chamber a round and I'm ready to rock and roll.

I would suggest that you go check each one out. They are all great guns. In the end I chose the Mossberg 500 because it was the cheapest.

Mossberg is my choice, but I would be fine with an 870 or Benelli. They're all good guns, the 500 or 870 will be easier to find parts for.

sammage is correct. The Benelli's, though good quality, do not have as many aftermarket parts for those who desire to customize.

I have all three and while the Mossberg and Remington are fine guns, the Benelli Nova is my favorite.
reyno2ac is right about the pistol grip for the Mossberg; I recently put one on mine and I definitely don't like the safety.

I have Nova, 2 Mossburgs 500 and 835, and several 870's in the safe. But the gun by my bed every night is an 870. Still the best pump I have ever shot and I have owned one for over 50 years. I just bought a S&W for my Daughter--870 clone.

    870 fan here.

They work well and look good for a long time. IMHO, the best firearm for the money on the market today. Slide release is in a good place to trip with your trigger finger, trigger feels great, rem choke system is fantastic, cheap aftermarket parts, barrels are as common as flies in a barn, proven track record of quality and reliability. Oh, and the action is solid as a rock. Rack the slide of another shotgun in the same price range and you will see what I mean.

No one has ever been dissapointed by an 870!

    I have a couple of Nova's, a couple of Mossy's and a couple of 870's

The Nova's are ok. I just never really got used to them. They dont have much in the way of accessories. They shoot good but they look sort of dorky.

The Mossys are ok. I have used them for any and everything. They have a thick wrist and feel clunky compared to the 870, its akin to shooting a fencepost. They are good solid guns and you can accessorize them easily.

The 870's feel better than any. Accessories are everywhere and you can customize one to your hearts content. Barrels are easy to get. Stocks are easy to get. They work.

870, smooth strong all steel guns. Benelli triggers are lawyer proofed, heavy way heavy. Mossbergs are good guns but not as durable as the 870's.

I've got shotguns by all 3 (Not a Nova, though).

Seriously--they're all great shotguns; you won't go wrong with any of them.

If I had to pick my favorite...it'd probably be Mossberg, though. They just seem to work better for me.

Not a fan of the Mossbergs, particularly because of the tang safety.

My first long guns were hunting weapons with crossbolt safeties in the trigger guard. Years later I got a deer rifle with a tang safety, and the fore-and-aft direction of the safety was enough to have it slip off far more times than I'm comfortable with, with just normal handling. There is no normal carry position or handling of the gun which will cause an 870's safety to move to "fire" position accidentally.

I never failed to hit a flushed bird because I couldn't move a crossbolt safety quickly enough. It's an easily learned motion that keeps your trigger finger outside the trigger guard until it's time to shoot.

Other than that, the Mossberg defense shotguns are reliable and priced reasonably.

As said before, all great shotguns but I would vote Mossberg based on the location of the safety, quality and the price point.

I love my Mossberg 930 auto.

I use it at the gun club shooting skeet and sporting clays and for hunting... so I like semi's versus "pumps".... but that is me.

The best part os that the safety on a Mossberg is on top and is easily used by a left or right handed person (I am right and my son is left handed).

I carry a semi-auto handgun... so therefore I have a semi-auto shotgun under my bed.
